What wines is Mexico known for?

Mexico is home to a thriving and diverse wine industry, with nearly 2,500 hectares (6,200 acres) of grape vines planted throughout the country. From crisp white wines like Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier, to rich and complex reds like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nebbiolo, Grenache, Tempranillo, Dolcetto, Syrah, and petite Sirah, there is something for every wine lover to enjoy.
But what really sets Mexico's wine region apart is its incredible diversity. With over 140 different grape varietals planted throughout the country, winemakers here have the freedom to be extremely creative and experiment with unique blends that you won't find anywhere else in the world. This has attracted winemakers from all over the globe, including France, Germany, Chile, Argentina, the United States, and of course, Mexico itself.
Due to the small production of many Mexican wineries, it can be difficult to find their wines consistently in the United States. But if you do come across a bottle of Mexican wine, don't hesitate to give it a try! You'll be pleasantly surprised by the creativity and quality of this exciting and diverse wine region.
