La Cocina de Doña Esthela
La Cucina de Dona Esthela! It's the breakfast spot in Mexico! Day three of our wine journey begins with a 15-minute drive to Donna Esthela from El Cielo. It's just down the road and everything appears to be here in Valle de Guadalupe. Sometimes the poor quality dirt roads slow you down a bit. This place takes no reservations and is very busy. Expect to wait a bit for a table. They do have a couple of gift shops and booths on-premise to help your wait time. Dona Esthela is famous for Barbacoa Lamb Burritos, yes for breakfast. Lamb is popular on breakfast menus here in Mexico. Here are some of the other house specialties:
Borrego Tatemada Delicious tatemada dried lamb served with consommé:
Borrego en su jugo Delicious lamb meat seasoned Doña Esthela-style cooked underground, served in its juice. Served with homemade beans:
Borrego Tacos Served with lamb tatemada with your choice of flour or corn tortilla
Corn Hotcakes Simply delicious – made with fresh corn Beef Birria Tatemada Served shredded alongside its consomme, straight from the pot
Beef Birria en su Jugo Delicious beef, seasoned Doña Esthela style, cooked underground, served in its own juice & homemade beans fresh from the pot Eggs Machaca 2 scrambled eggs mixed with dried shredded beef Sinaloa style & served with refried beans
One on of our visits an employee was pushing out a wheelbarrow of juiced orange halves. So yes they orange juice is very fresh here.
Not many people speak english here. It's easiest to look at the front cover of the menu and point to the pictures of the house favorites.
