Chateau Camou
After our tasting at Casa di Piedra we head back up the north end of the valley to Chateau Camou. This is totally a new winery for us. We haven't heard of them until this trip to Baja. But that is why we are here, to discover the gems. As we pull in the first impression is huge! Huge in a good way. And it's a big building! The tasting room is in the warehouse. It's in a cutout section that totally makes you forget about the warehouse you just entered. The lighting and décor is like stepping back in time. Sergio walks over and introduces himself. Sergio is the wine maker here. He is from South America and has been with Camou for a while. Each wine is impressive. Actually they are all amazing! Sometimes you never know what to expect. But again that's why we are here. And it's great to have contacts that steer you in the right direction. Sergio spent the afternoon with us. We toured the cellar and barrel sampled. Sergio also tasted us from the stainless steel tanks. We even tasted rose pre and post filter. We finished off in the bottle aging room. We got to see the library wines in storage. All in all this place is great and Sergio took it to the next level. It's always great when the wine maker does your tour and tasting.
